#noticiascripto 🔥🔥700 thousand Mexicans ceded their iris to Worldcoin for a handful of cryptocurrencies
Sam Altman's project is unleashing a storm of criticism. Researchers are denouncing the privacy risks and flawed consent.
The company claims it creates an anonymous digital ID and deletes the iris image.
Lawyers warn that the generated code is a biometric data and its deletion is nearly impossible.
More than 700,000 Mexicans have scanned their iris with the Orb device from Worldcoin, better known by its previous name Worldcoin, a project led by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, creators of ChatGPT, according to a report by Animal Político from August 18, 2025. This figure represents 74.47% of the 940,000 verifications reported in North America, according to Worldcoin's official website.
The initiative, which offers units of the token called worldcoin (WLD) in exchange for biometric data, is unleashing a new wave of alerts from digital rights organizations due to the risks of ceding unique and irreplaceable information.
