Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged countries in the Global South to play a stronger role in ending the war with Russia.

After talks with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Zelenskyy said the conflict must not be allowed to drag on any longer. “The killings and destruction must stop. The world needs to send clear signals to Moscow and push it toward peace,” he emphasized.

While Zelenskyy reiterated his readiness to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin “in any format,” he noted that Moscow continues to delay meaningful negotiations.

The renewed diplomatic push—led by U.S. President Donald Trump alongside European allies—has stalled, with Trump warning that sanctions on Russia could follow if progress is not seen soon.

For Kyiv, gaining the backing of nations across Africa, Asia, and Latin America is now seen as critical to bringing Moscow to the negotiating table.
