184 gambling and betting websites and apps have been blocked in Pakistan
Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked 184 gambling and betting websites and apps.
In a written response presented by the Cabinet Division in the National Assembly session, it was revealed that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked several websites and mobile applications related to gambling and betting in the country.
They further clarified that taking action against individuals involved in these activities is outside the jurisdiction of the PTA.
The response stated that all institutions across the country have been directed not to enter into any agreements with companies or platforms involved in gambling or betting.
The Cabinet Division acknowledged that the PTA's powers are limited to completely eliminating or blocking illegal online content, and legislation and cooperation among relevant institutions are needed in this regard.
It is noteworthy that due to the increasing trend of social media and online gaming, such illegal platforms are ensnaring the younger generation, putting pressure on the government for effective action against them.
