BlackRock Becomes the Largest Known Holder of Bitcoin
BlackRock's Bitcoin Holdings Are Only Surpassed by Those of Satoshi Nakamoto
The investment and financial management company, BlackRock, has surpassed the reserves of major Bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrency exchanges, positioning itself as the largest known custodian of Bitcoin, with 746,288 BTC valued at $84 billion.
It is worth clarifying that these BTC are not directly owned by BlackRock, but rather support the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) ETF and are held by Coinbase, which acts as the custodian of the coins, as explained by CriptoNoticias.
This milestone leads BlackRock, through IBIT, to surpass the holdings of Coinbase (703,110 BTC) and Binance (608,639 BTC). Only Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, is estimated to hold more, with 1,123,500 BTC.
