Tom Lee, the chairman of BitMine, believes there is a probability exceeding 50% that Ethereum will surpass Bitcoin in market value.
He stated this in an interview on August 23, pointing to Ethereum's expanding role in decentralized finance (DeFi) and the Web3 sector.
Although Bitcoin remains the dominant digital asset, trends in institutional adoption and increasing demand for practical use are bolstering Ethereum's position in the long term.
The comparison between Ethereum and Bitcoin reflects the potential for a shift in market leadership, as Lee believes that Ethereum's widespread uses in DeFi, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and Web3 applications may ultimately enable it to become the leading digital asset, despite Bitcoin's status as the first and largest cryptocurrency.
