Bitlayer Series (63): Application of YBTC in Decentralized Prediction Markets

Decentralized prediction markets have always been a popular area in blockchain, but the Bitcoin ecosystem has been lacking efficient tools. YBTC, as a yield-bearing asset of Bitlayer, perfectly fills this gap. It is not only a pegged version of Bitcoin but also has a built-in yield mechanism that allows holders to earn additional income in the prediction market. Imagine users betting on event outcomes with YBTC, such as elections or sports events; they can not only receive prediction rewards but also earn a share from network consensus, making the market more active through this dual incentive.

The application logic of YBTC is simple: through the BitVM bridge, users convert BTC into YBTC and then deploy prediction contracts in the EVM-compatible environment of Bitlayer. These contracts run on a modular execution layer, supporting complex conditional logic, such as multi-party betting and automatic settlement. Unlike traditional markets, there is no centralized control here; everything relies on smart contracts and the secure anchoring of Bitcoin, ensuring fairness. Many early users have said that using YBTC to participate in prediction markets feels more reliable than other chains because it is backed by Bitcoin's PoW consensus.

In practical scenarios, YBTC has enhanced market liquidity. Users can redeem assets at any time without worrying about extended lock-up periods. Coupled with the high throughput of rollups, prediction events can handle massive transactions without getting stuck like the main chain. This is a boon for professional traders, who can build derivative strategies with YBTC to amplify their returns. There are already projects in the community testing political event predictions, with high participation.

Of course, there are challenges, such as volatility management. However, the design of YBTC provides sufficient stability through the dual finality of PoS and Bitcoin settlement. In the long run, it will make the prediction markets of the Bitcoin ecosystem mainstream, attracting more capital and users.
