“High Kick” actress faces prison sentence over misappropriation of crypto investment funds

Actress Hwang Jung Eum is facing a potential three-year prison sentence on charges of misusing 4.34 billion won (~$3.1M) from Hunminjeongeum Entertainment to invest in cryptocurrency.

She admitted that she established the entertainment company to support her career but, following advice from an acquaintance, diverted the funds into a sector she did not fully understand.

According to her lawyer, Hwang Jung Eum had no intention of personal gain. Instead, due to a lack of legal knowledge, she mistakenly believed that “as long as the money was repaid, it would not be illegal.” In recent months, she has made efforts to secure funds to compensate for the losses.

The final court ruling is scheduled to be delivered in September.
