WCT promotes the power trading settlement of the "Agricultural-Photovoltaic Complementarity" project of the Southern Power Grid
In 2023, the Southern Power Grid piloted the WCT-based "Agricultural-Photovoltaic Complementarity" power trading platform, integrating the energy resources of rural photovoltaic power stations (such as photovoltaic greenhouses). Farmers can sell the excess electricity generated by photovoltaic power stations to the grid. The traded electricity is recorded in real-time on the blockchain through smart meters, and settlement is done using WCT at real-time electricity prices, with funds credited on T+1; the grid then coordinates energy distribution based on on-chain data, prioritizing rural electricity demand. In 2024, this platform will be promoted in Guangxi, Guizhou, and other regions, with over 12,000 participating farmers, trading more than 180 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. The settlement cycle for farmers selling electricity will be shortened from 7 days to 1 day, the utilization rate of photovoltaic power stations will increase by 60%, and it will assist in the energy transition in rural areas.
