Bitlayer Series (Sixty): How to Enhance Bitcoin Security through BitVM

The BitVM paradigm is the core technology of Bitlayer, which enhances Bitcoin security. BitVM allows for the verification of complex computations in Bitcoin scripts without modifying the protocol. Bitlayer utilizes a recursive framework to settle second-layer states onto the main chain, ensuring secure anchoring.

Operators submit state declarations, and challengers can verify fraud, which reduces trust assumptions. Only one honest party is needed to maintain network integrity. Compared to traditional sidechains, BitVM avoids the risks of federated multisig and directly inherits PoW consensus.

The YBTC bridge integrates BitVM to achieve secure asset transfer. Users lock Bitcoin, and the protocol protects funds through guarantees and challenge periods. The modular design allows BitVM to adapt to various applications, enhancing overall ecosystem security.

Community participation strengthens security. Validators pre-sign transaction graphs, and governance allows for protocol upgrades to guard against emerging threats. Dual-layer finality provides flexible options, with soft finality being fast and hard finality offering Bitcoin-level security.

Through BitVM, Bitlayer makes Bitcoin safer, unlocks DeFi potential, and drives innovation.
