The E-3G Sentry AWACS 76 took off from Tinker Air Force Base (Oklahoma) and was detected flying over the Gulf heading southeast, most likely for a surveillance mission over the Caribbean Sea. It joins other surveillance aircraft already deployed in the area.
📡 The AWACS is an airborne warning and control system with its distinctive 9-meter rotating radar that can detect threats within a radius of over 400 kilometers, from the surface to the stratosphere. It is the eye in the sky of the United States to coordinate complex air operations.
Trump officially renamed the Gulf of Mexico as the "Gulf of America" by Executive Order on January 20. Federal agencies have been using the new name since January 24. 71% of Americans oppose the change according to polls, but military maps have already adopted it.
⚡ Tinker AFB in Oklahoma is the main base for the AWACS fleet with only 16 E-3 aircraft remaining (out of 31 original). The Air Force retired 15 aging units and plans to replace them with E-7 Wedgetail by 2027. Each mission requires 13-19 specialists on board.
🎯 The presence of the AWACS suggests intensified surveillance operations in the Caribbean, possibly related to drug trafficking, migration, or activities of other powers in the region. The "Gulf of America" becomes a stage for projecting American power. #FOMCMinutes #siguemeparamasinfo
