Is Malaysia really this chaotic?!

A Chinese girl studying in Malaysia encountered a phone scam on the 5th day and committed suicide by jumping off a building on the 9th day! The Shandong police have opened a case.

Hangzhou Daily reported: On March 14, 2025, 20-year-old Xiao Wen (pseudonym) arrived in Malaysia to start her study abroad journey. On March 22, around 2 PM, her mother in Shandong received a message from Xiao Wen stating that a police officer from Shanghai called her, saying that she was involved in a scam that caused an elderly woman to lose her life and needed to cooperate with the investigation. Her mother warned Xiao Wen to be cautious, as it was highly likely a phone scam and not to easily trust it.

On the evening of the 22nd, around 6 PM, her parents found they could not reach Xiao Wen. Around 10 PM that night, they learned from a teacher in the study abroad program that a student had jumped from the 39th floor, prompting them to book the fastest flight to confirm the situation.

Later, they discovered among their daughter's belongings that Xiao Wen had received a scam call from this fake police officer as early as March 18, and afterward, the scammer monitored her actions in real-time through mobile software, demanding she quickly pay a 'security deposit' of 258,000 yuan.

On August 18, reporters learned from Xiao Wen's family that the Public Security Bureau of Zhucheng City, Shandong, has opened a case regarding Xiao Wen's scam incident.

Previously, there had been multiple media reports about Chinese students encountering scams. In January 2024, the Shanghai Anti-Fraud Center analyzed cases involving overseas students scammed since 2022, finding that the average age of the victimized students was only 22 years, with the youngest being just 17 years old. The age group primarily concentrated on those born after 2000, with the shortest time interval from 'going abroad to first being scammed' being just one day.

On August 2, 2025, the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia issued a warning to be vigilant about unknown calls, stating,$XRP
