President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that the United States will not send ground troops to Ukraine. Speaking on Fox News, he reassured viewers, "I can assure you, and I am the president." This came after he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders at the White House to discuss ending Russia's long-running war.

White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt confirmed that while the United States may help coordinate and provide security support, American troops will not be sent to Ukraine. Trump stated that the United States may provide air support, while countries such as France, Germany, and the United Kingdom are prepared to send troops as part of a future peace plan.

Sources reported that Trump has asked his national security team to work with European governments on a new security plan. NATO leaders will meet online on Wednesday to discuss this. Budapest may host a summit between Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Zelenskyy. In the interview, Trump said that Ukraine's hopes of joining NATO and reclaiming Crimea are "impossible" under the agreement he is working on. He emphasized that the new security plan would be independent of NATO. Meanwhile, European countries are considering imposing further sanctions on Russia to maintain pressure during peace talks.
