In recent years, the P2P (peer-to-peer) method – that is, transferring money directly from one person to another – has become increasingly popular in Vietnam. This method is fast, convenient but carries a very high risk of scams, as money is transferred directly without a third party to guarantee.
Common P2P Scam Tricks in Vietnam
1. Fake Proof of Payment
Scammer sends you a screenshot of a fake transaction to prove that they have sent the money.
In fact, the transaction has not occurred or is still pending.
Commonly seen on Binance P2P or trading Facebook groups.
2. Stolen Bank Account / E-Wallet
Scammer uses a hacked account to send money to you.
Then, the real account owner complains → the bank or wallet freezes your account for investigation.
3. Reversal Scam
After you receive the money, the scammer files a fraud complaint with the bank or wallet → the money is withdrawn.
4. Underpaid Transfer
For example: a transaction of 100,000,000 VND but the scammer only transfers 99,000,000 VND and asks you to pay the difference in cash.
According to the regulations of P2P platforms, do not release money before receiving the full agreed amount.
5. Third-Party Payment Fraud
Scammer asks someone else to send money to you.
Then, the third party complains → your account is suspected of money laundering.
Vulnerable Targets
Traders on Binance P2P (buy/sell crypto)
Members of trading groups on Facebook / WhatsApp
Freelancers receiving directly via EasyPaisa / JazzCash
Sellers on OLX or other marketplaces
Tips to Prevent P2P Scams
Only transact with verified individuals or those with good feedback on the platform.
Wait at least 1–2 hours after receiving money before completing the transaction to reduce the risk of reversal.
Do not share CNIC, OTP, passwords, or account access with anyone.
If you see a third party's name appear on the statement, cancel the transaction immediately.
Always use the chat and dispute system of the P2P platform for protection.
💡 Note: P2P is very convenient but also full of risks. Being cautious, thoroughly verifying partners, and following the rules above will help you minimize the risk of unfortunate financial loss.
