Beyond Expansion: How Bitlayer Enhances Asset Security through Its Cross-Chain Bridge Design

In the multi-chain blockchain world, the security of cross-chain bridges has always been one of the weakest links in the entire industry, with frequent hacking incidents resulting in billions of dollars in losses. Bitlayer deeply understands this and has innovated the security of asset cross-chain within its core architecture. Traditional cross-chain bridges often rely on a set of trusted validators, which carries centralization risks. Bitlayer's cross-chain bridge design employs a mechanism based on optimistic validation, ultimately adjudicated by the Bitcoin network via BitVM. Specifically, when users bridge assets from the Bitcoin mainnet to Bitlayer, this process is monitored by a decentralized network of validators. Any participant observing fraudulent behavior can submit a concise cryptographic proof (fraud proof) to the Bitcoin mainnet. The Bitcoin network verifies this proof through BitVM and penalizes the wrongdoer. This design elevates the security of cross-chain bridges to a level comparable to that of the Bitcoin mainnet, as it no longer relies on trust in any intermediaries but instead depends on cryptography and the global consensus of Bitcoin. This provides critical infrastructure assurance for the secure entry of large-scale Bitcoin assets into the Layer 2 application world and is a significant contribution by Bitlayer to the security standards of the entire industry.
