Caldera’s bold bet: make rollups cheap to deploy and easy to connect. Instead of one monolithic L2, Caldera provides a Metalayer network where each rollup can be customized for latency, VM, and economic policy yet still plug into a shared cross-rollup fabric. That lets niche apps (gaming, privacy, high frequency DeFi) each have tuned chains while preserving liquidity and composability across the ecosystem.

The infrastructure stack is pragmatic: a deployable rollup framework, shared indexers and analytics, a bridge/aggregator layer for cross-rollup transfers, and the Metalayer routing layer that orchestrates message passing and gas settlement. This split keeps rollups lightweight while concentrating interoperability logic in the Metalayer a classic scaling+coordination tradeoff.

Operational security relies on ERA staked nodes and a network design that settles critical data back to Ethereum. ERA functions as cross rollup gas and as the staking token for nodes that provide routing, fraud proofs, or data services aligning economic incentives for uptime and honest behavior. That staking+gas model is central to Caldera’s plan to scale safely.
