Investigations have revealed that 49 individuals hold cryptocurrencies worth over $160,000. Tax officials have initiated asset preservation procedures to recover unpaid taxes by analyzing data from exchanges such as Bithumb and Upbit. The head of the Jinan tax office stated that they will leverage AI technology to enhance taxation of new types of assets and promote honest tax payment. South Korea has previously legislated to allow the seizure of cryptocurrencies for tax recovery, and from 2021 to 2022, a total of $180 million in crypto assets have been seized nationwide.
