MCTI Secretary warns of US threats to technological sovereignty, but sees alternatives with BRICS

Two weeks ago, the United States threatened Brazil, saying they could cut the country's access to the global satellite positioning system GPS - a measure that could have a significant impact on national security, the economy, and technological sovereignty of the country.

In a conversation with "Denise Assis Convida," which will air this Sunday (17) at 12 PM on TV 247, the executive secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Luis Fernandes - who previously held the position in Lula's first government - spoke about the issue.

For him, the threats and obstacles created by the US government have become a challenge, leading the country to seek to develop its own systems.

"With every difficulty, we seek a solution. One of them, for example, is the route of the fiber optic cables that Brazil is connected to. They come from the United States and Europe, and practically all of our data travels through them.

From an agreement with China, we are looking for an alternative by connecting to the route made by them, which passes through India, South Africa, and we will bring them to Brazil, integrating with these BRICS countries.

In fact, the idea is to take them to Chile as well and truly integrate the Global South," he explained.
