According to Techub News, the Shanghai First Intermediate People’s Court’s official account, the Shanghai First Intermediate People’s Court recently concluded a second-instance criminal case involving digital collections. The defendants Wang and Liu, under the guise of operating a digital collection platform, issued digital collections whose underlying electronic images were generated by AI. They falsely advertised the appreciation prospects of the aforementioned digital collections and promised to “half price” to guarantee the principal. The court ruled that Wang and Liu constituted the crime of fundraising fraud. The court sentenced the defendant Wang to eight years and six months in prison and a fine of 550,000 yuan; the defendant Liu to seven years and two months in prison and a fine of 500,000 yuan; the tools used in the crime were confiscated, the stolen money in the case was returned to the victim, and the remaining amount was ordered to be refunded.
