🇺🇸 U.S. Stops Visitor Visas for Gazans
The U.S. State Department has paused all visitor visas (B1/B2) and short-term humanitarian permits for people from Gaza. Officials say they need time to review how some medical visas were recently approved.
Over 3,800 visas were given this year to Palestinians with travel documents, including 640 in May. But the pause came after far-right activist Laura Loomer posted online about Palestinian families arriving in the U.S., raising concerns from some Republican lawmakers.
Advocacy groups say this decision or injured children from getting life-saving treatment in U.S. hospitals. Groups like CAIR and the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund call the move cruel and harmful.
This comes during Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza, which started after Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023 attack. Over 61,000 Palestinians have died, and medical help is harder to reach. The U.S. has not announced any plan to accept displaced Gazans.
