In a statement that shook the U.S. political landscape, former First Lady and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton claimed she would be willing to nominate Donald Trump, the current president of the U.S., for the Nobel Peace Prize if he manages to end the war in Ukraine under fair conditions.
The former Secretary of State made this assertion during an interview on the podcast Raging Moderates, where she emphasized that her priority is to avoid capitulation to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Clinton outlined the requirements that, according to her, should be met to consider an acceptable peace: a ceasefire without territorial exchange, the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, and guarantees that Russia will not threaten European security.
<<If President Trump were the architect of this agreement, I would nominate him for the Nobel, because my goal is to prevent a surrender promoted by the United States," she emphasized.
These statements came on the eve of the unprecedented summit this Friday, August 15, between Trump and Putin in Anchorage (Alaska), where they are expected to discuss possible ways to resolve the conflict. The meeting has generated great anticipation, especially since neither the Ukrainian government, nor European representatives and the United Nations (UN) participated directly.
The absence of these key actors has raised concerns about the legitimacy and scope of any agreement that might arise.
