SEC Chair Atkins: “We’re Mobilizing” — Crypto Rules Await Congressional Green Light
SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the agency is "mobilizing" to revise digital asset rules.
He said the Commission awaits additional crypto measures from legislators.
Project Crypto, launched by Atkins on July 31, attempts to update crypto rules.
According to a Friday interview, SEC Chair Paul Atkins is waiting for Congress to adopt further crypto legislation while it "mobilizes" to update its digital asset recommendations.
As SEC seeks to establish crypto standards, Chair Atkins names legislators.
In a Friday Fox Business interview, SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the agency is ready to execute President Donald Trump's crypto capital plan.
Trump's Crypto Working Group recommends reconsidering standards that "have been around for 90 years or so." Atkins said the agency is "mobilizing" all departments and offices to implement the proposals.
He said the Group's July report offered clear recommendations to achieve the President's crypto and digital financial objectives.
Atkins said the SEC expects crypto bill passage. He said the agency's work would be based on Congress's stablecoin-focused GENIUS Act and market structure reform initiatives.
"It will be undergirded by whatever comes out of Congress, but I believe that we have the authority to move forward in these areas and provide that certainty and clarity for people," he added.
The GENIUS stablecoin regulation law passed last month with a solid bipartisan majority. CLARITY and Anti-CBDC measures passed the House but needed Senate approval before reaching the President.
Atkins also discussed the effects of a district court's debit interchange regulation strikedown. The verdict may boost real-time payment networks and cryptocurrency use, he added.
The remark comes weeks after Atkins unveiled the SEC's Project Crypto attempt to update crypto laws.
Atkins wants the US financial industry on-chain. The effort will also simplify crypto asset categorization, custody, and trading regulations.
