Ethereum's lead developer was released after spending 24 hours in detention in Turkey

Federico Carrone, a privacy-focused lead on Ethereum, confirmed that he was released after being accused by Turkish authorities of aiding in the "misuse" of a privacy protocol of Ethereum.

Ethereum's lead developer, Federico Carrone, known as "Fede's Intern" on X, confirmed that he was released after being detained in Turkey for 24 hours due to alleged connections with a privacy protocol of Ethereum.

"I'm finally out, safe and free. There was a brief moment when things looked very bad, but thanks to the help of many, I was released," Carrone stated in a post on X on Monday.

The Turkish Interior Minister accused him of "aiding others in the misuse of Ethereum" in alleged connection with a privacy protocol. Carrone said he believes it is linked to a research work from January 2022 that assessed user privacy on Ethereum and Tornado Cash.
