⚗️ Innovative Method for Storing Quantum Information

A team of researchers from the California Institute of Technology has introduced a new hybrid approach to storing quantum information. They converted electrical signals into sound, which allowed them to store the quantum states of superconducting qubits for up to 30 times longer than before.

In this method, the superconducting qubit on the chip is connected to a miniature mechanical oscillator. The oscillator made of flexible plates oscillates under the influence of sound waves at gigahertz frequencies, enabling the "recording" of a quantum state and its later retrieval.
