#MarketTurbulence 💰🌍 Bill Gates Just Gave Away $51 Billion — His Goal: End World Hunger
In one of the largest charitable donations in history, Bill Gates has pledged $51 billion to accelerate the work of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with the ambitious goal of tackling some of the world’s most urgent crises — including ending world hunger.
The move reshaped the billionaire rankings. Gates’ net worth dropped from $175 billion to $124 billion, knocking him out of the top five richest people. His former Microsoft deputy, Steve Ballmer, moved into fifth place with $172 billion, thanks to Microsoft stock he’s held since joining the company in 1980.
Gates has pledged to give away nearly all of his fortune over the next 20 years, with the foundation planned to close by 2045. His philosophy on wealth has long been clear: his children will inherit less than 1% of his estate, with the rest going toward solving global problems. “There are too many urgent problems to solve for me to hold onto resources that could be used to help people,” Gates wrote in May.
Ballmer, who famously bought the LA Clippers for $2 billion (now valued at $5.5 billion), has also given more than $4 billion through the Ballmer Group to improve economic mobility in the U.S. While their fortunes took different paths, both share a commitment to transformational philanthropy.
