Speed, Security, and Decentralization Bitlayer operates on a unique dual-level architecture that combines high-speed performance with the unparalleled security of the Bitcoin network. The first layer is a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus system designed for speed. Validators within this layer produce and validate L2 blocks, creating a high-throughput, EVM-compatible environment that provides a fast user experience. Validators secure their role by staking BTR tokens, and their influence in the consensus is directly proportional to the amount they have staked. The second layer is the rollup framework, which is responsible for anchoring the network's security to Bitcoin. This layer periodically commits and settles the state of the L2 chain onto the Bitcoin blockchain. In this model, Bitcoin serves as the ultimate layer for security and data availability, while Bitlayer functions as the scalable and efficient computational layer. The integrity of this system is maintained by two key participants:Validators: The core of the PoS consensus, responsible for block production and validation.Rollup Operator: A specialized, rotating role held by a single validator. The operator bundles L2 state transitions, generates cryptographic proofs, and submits them to Bitcoin's L1. To ensure accountability, the operator must lock a significant amount of BTC collateral. This role rotates periodically to prevent any single entity from gaining too much control.Full Nodes: These participants maintain a complete copy of the Bitlayer blockchain, independently verifying all transactions and state transitions without relying on validators. They are crucial for maintaining network transparency and enforcing protocol rules.
