BtcTurk exchange halts withdrawals after suspicious transfer of 49 million USD
The Turkish cryptocurrency exchange #BtcTurk has temporarily suspended its customers' withdrawal functionality after blockchain security companies detected suspicious transactions totaling nearly 49 million USD leaving the platform.
Concerns about a new attack
According to security companies like Peckshield, the withdrawn funds are primarily Ethereum ($ETH ), along with some other tokens such as Avalanche (AVAX) and Arbitrum ($ARB ). This incident raises concerns that BtcTurk may have been attacked again. Previously, in 2024, the exchange was hacked and lost 54 million USD, mostly in AVAX.
BtcTurk's response and market context
BtcTurk announced on X that they have temporarily halted withdrawals to conduct a detailed investigation and have notified the authorities. The exchange reassured users that most of their assets are still safe in cold wallets and will not be affected due to a strong financial structure.
This incident occurs amid increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks targeting centralized exchanges. Although the cryptocurrency market has matured, thefts continue to rise. The year 2024 was the worst year for the amount of money stolen, and 2025 is showing similar signs with major attacks targeting centralized exchanges.#anhbacong
