Why measure fear and greed?
The behavior of the cryptocurrency market is very emotional.
People tend to become greedy when the market rises, which creates FOMO (fear of missing out).
Additionally, people often sell their cryptocurrencies as an irrational reaction to seeing red numbers.
With the Fear and Greed Index, we try to protect you from your own exaggerated emotional reactions.
There are two simple assumptions:
* Extreme fear may be a sign that investors are too worried. That could represent a buying opportunity.
* When investors become too greedy, it means the market is about to undergo a correction.
Therefore, we analyze the current sentiment of the Bitcoin market and convert the numbers into a simple gauge of 0 to 100. Zero means "extreme fear," while 100 means "extreme greed."
