I believe that nominating someone with a controversial political background, especially given his involvement in the January 6 events, may provide a temporary boost to the numbers and the economy in the short term, but ultimately it could damage the credibility of the data and lead to incorrect economic decisions by the Federal Reserve,which would have negative long-term consequences.
