P2P Scams in Pakistan — Risks, Methods, and Prevention What is #P2PScamAwareness ? Peer-to-Peer (P2P) payments involve direct money transfers between two individuals, without any intermediary. Common examples include EasyPaisa, JazzCash, SadaPay, NayaPay, and Binance P2P transactions. While this method is fast, it carries a high risk of scams because there is no built-in guarantee or escrow in many cases. ⸻ Common P2P Scam Methods in #Pakistan 1. Fake Proof of Payment • Scammers send edited or fake payment screenshots. • The actual transaction never happens or remains in a pending state. • Often seen in Binance P2P and Facebook trading groups. 2. Stolen Bank / Mobile Wallet Accounts • Payment is made from hacked accounts. • Once the real account holder complains, the bank/wallet freezes your account for investigation. 3. Reversal Scam • After sending payment, the scammer files a fraud complaint with the bank or wallet, reversing the funds. • Common in Meezan Bank, HBL, EasyPaisa, and JazzCash. 4. Underpaid Transfer • Example: The agreed amount is PKR 100,000, but the scammer sends PKR 99,000 and requests you to release funds, promising to pay the rest in cash. • Rule: Never release until full payment is confirmed. 5. Third-Party Payment Fraud • A scammer uses another person’s account to send you money. • Later, that person files an FIR, and you may face legal trouble under money laundering laws. ⸻ Main Targets of P2P Scams • Binance P2P crypto traders. • Facebook & WhatsApp trading group members. • Freelancers accepting EasyPaisa/JazzCash directly. • Sellers on OLX and Facebook Marketplace. ⸻ How to Protect Yourself ✅ Deal only with verified traders who have positive feedback on platforms. ✅ After receiving payment, wait 1–2 hours before releasing assets to reduce reversal risk. ✅ Never share your CNIC copy, OTP, or account access details. ✅ Cancel any deal where a third-party name appears in the transaction. ✅ Always use the official chat and dispute system of P2P platforms.
