Bitlayer’s roadmap outlines a bold, multi-phase plan to scale Bitcoin by combining cross-chain interoperability with Bitcoin-level security and high throughput. Major upcoming milestones include:
Mainnet & Bridge: After launching its PoS foundation, Bitlayer is advancing toward the BitVM-powered L2 mainnet. The BitVM Bridge (following testnet runs) will enable trustless BTC transfers and anchor Bitlayer state directly on Bitcoin.
Full Rollup Deployment (Q4 2025): By the end of 2025 Bitlayer intends to operate as a true Bitcoin rollup, deploying the components needed to publish recursive proofs on Bitcoin. If successful, Layer-2 state transitions could be validated by Bitcoin’s proof-of-work, delivering near-native security.
Performance Goals: Parallel to rollup work, Bitlayer targets a “Super Charged” performance tier — aiming for ~20,000 TPS and ~3-second confirmations — to support large-scale dApps like finance and gaming that Bitcoin’s base layer cannot handle.
Ecosystem Expansion: The project will continue onboarding partners, integrating additional chains, and rolling out governance features (powered by BTR) so the network can evolve with community input.
Long-Term Vision: Overall, Bitlayer seeks to make Bitcoin the foundation of a full DeFi stack (“BTCFi”). From token distribution and bridge launches to rollup deployment and scaling, each roadmap step is designed to turn Bitcoin into a secure, programmable platform for next-generation decentralized applications
