Do Kwon Pleads Guilty in TerraUSD Collapse Case – Faces Up to 12 Years in Prison and $19M Fine New York, August 12, 2025 – Do Kwon, co-founder of Terraform Labs and a key figure behind the TerraUSD (UST) and Luna cryptocurrency projects, has pleaded guilty to fraud charges in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (SDNY). The plea comes in connection with the collapse of these cryptocurrencies in 2022, which wiped out more than $40 billion in market value. Kwon admitted to charges of conspiracy to commit fraud and wire fraud, both of which carry a statutory maximum penalty of 25 years in prison. However, under a plea agreement with prosecutors, he will face no more than 12 years in prison if he complies with conditions and refrains from further offenses prior to sentencing. As part of the agreement, Kwon will forfeit assets related to Terraform Labs and cryptocurrency holdings, and pay a fine of over $19 million. The 2022 collapse of UST and Luna was one of the largest crises in the history of the cryptocurrency market, causing massive losses to investors worldwide and prompting stricter oversight of stablecoin projects by regulators across the globe.
