Sonic (formerly Fantom, ticker S) is a high-speed Layer 1 blockchain compatible with EVM, created by the Fantom team. In 2024, it launched a new mainnet and replaced the Fantom token FTM on a 1:1 basis at the beginning of 2025.
Providing up to 400,000 transactions per second and half-second finality, Sonic uses a 'fee monetization' model that allows developers to receive up to 90% of on-chain fees. The token (S) is used for gas payment, staking, and governance, similar to the initial supply of Fantom of 3.175 billion.

Since its launch, Sonic's price has been volatile. In January 2025, it reached an all-time high of $1.03 (during the airdrop and listing), and then fell to a low of $0.33 by February.

Sonic has seen a massive influx of capital, leading with a net inflow of over $1.3 billion since the beginning of the year following the rebranding of Fantom in January 2025. This outpaces Ethereum and Solana. In particular, Sonic integrated USDC Circle, which contributed to cross-chain liquidity and ecosystem growth.
Coinbase added Sonic, and now investors can trade Sonic tokens (subject to liquidity). Listing on a major exchange means greater availability and institutional interest.

By the end of April – May 2025, Sonic's TVL reached $1 billion for the first time. This happened after Binance Wallet added the Sonic token and native support for Sonic decentralized applications. Open interest and trading volumes also surged. Earlier, in January and February, TVL was $11 million, then $414 million after the rebranding.

Binance Wallet added Sonic, resulting in a 15% price increase and a 130% rise in trading volume. Speculations around the airdrop of 200 million Sonic tokens only fueled the excitement, although details have not yet been confirmed.

Sonic Summit 2025 will take place in September in Singapore and will include new partnerships in the dApp space and important milestones for the ecosystem. Given Sonic's metrics of 400,000 transactions per second, TVL of $1 billion, and DeFi yields of 14%, this event is generating significant buzz.

The token peaked at $1.03 in January 2025 before a sharp decline and has since consolidated around $0.40–$0.70. The RSI has risen from extreme oversold levels to 40–50, indicating a weakening of selling pressure. The price is fluctuating within a range, currently below the mid-Bollinger Band ($0.33).
Each rise in Sonic meets resistance at $0.65–$0.70, and the overall momentum is bearish. The support level at $0.40 has held several times, and buyers are actively buying on dips.

Price forecasts for Sonic vary significantly. CoinStats analysts predict an average price of Sonic at $0.5349 in 2025, with a low of $0.517 and a high of $0.583. In 2026, they forecast an average price of Sonic at $0.7477, with a low of $0.726 and a high of $0.878. Growth will be gradual if the overall cryptocurrency market improves.

Several factors could affect Sonic's long-term price. The new Sonic incentive model may attract developers. Over 150 projects (including stablecoins like USDC) are being developed on Sonic's base due to grants and hackathons. It is reported that developers have already been paid over $1.3 million through fee monetization, which is an unusual incentive for cryptocurrencies.

If more DeFi applications migrate to Sonic, TVL and usage may increase, along with demand. Key metrics will be on-chain revenue, gas volume, and locked capital. Without 'sticky' user growth, fee distribution in Sonic would be meaningless, and the token would trade as a liquidity instrument.

Like all altcoins, Sonic's price is tied to broader cryptocurrency trends. A bullish cycle will lift Sonic, while a bearish market will hold it back. The level of trust from regulators (e.g., compliance orientation) and interest from institutional investors (e.g., GSR as a market maker) may influence sentiment.

According to recent studies, the price forecast for Sonic in 2025-2026 is highly uncertain. If the new Sonic blockchain gains traction due to the migration of decentralized applications, the growth of TVL, and the momentum from airdrops, the token could recover to $1 or exceed it by the end of 2025.
In optimistic scenarios, analysts estimate the value of Sonic at $0.75–$1.75 by 2025 and above $1 in 2026. However, if adoption slows and the cryptocurrency market remains weak, Sonic may face challenges; according to several forecasts, it could drop below $0.10 or be limited to $0.20 by 2025.

The long-term prospects for Sonic depend on execution and usage. Investors are advised to monitor on-chain metrics (fees, developers, TVL) and overall market trends when assessing Sonic's outlook.
