Former Minister Diana Mondino reappeared publicly with strong statements about President Javier Milei and the libra cryptocurrency scandal. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Mondino questioned the promotion of the token by the president, an act that triggered an investigation in Congress and several international complaints.
On February 14, 2025, Milei's account on X promoted the libra token. After a sharp rise and fall, a rug-pull was suspected, a scam in which funds are withdrawn after artificially inflating the value of the crypto asset. The president deleted the tweet, claiming a lack of information, but the damage was already done.
During the interview, Mondino was blunt: "There are two possibilities: either he is not very smart or he is a corrupt guy. You choose." Her words add to the criticisms from former advisors like economist Carlos Rodríguez, who directly accuses Milei of being behind the "deal."
The case has transcended borders, with complaints filed with the Department of Justice and the FBI in the United States, in addition to a class action lawsuit seeking to compensate victims with over 800 million dollars. While the Argentine opposition demands an impeachment trial, figures like Cristina Fernández de Kirchner have accused Milei of being "the hook of a digital scam."
