When BOB was first listed on Binance Alpha platform, it had two tags BSC and Meme. However, a few weeks later, Binance removed the Meme tag.
Why did Binance remove the meme tag?
Isn't BOB clearly a meme token?
Look at other tokens on the spot market like Floki, Bonk, and Pepe they all still carry the meme tag.
The removal of the meme tag from BOB occurred around the same time Binance and BNB Chain were actively holding the NYC Builder Bunker event.
As mentioned earlier, Builder Bunker was an indirect marketing campaign for Build On BNB.
The event may not have mentioned BOB directly, but it clearly and explicitly promoted Build On BNB.
Binance realized it wasn’t appropriate to keep labeling BOB as a meme, even though its initial concept was a meme token built with serious intent. Still, it comes back to suitability that’s why the meme tag was removed.
If BOB hadn’t been created as a meme, it would have competed directly with BNB. So Binance intentionally launched BOB as a meme with a total supply of 420.69 trillion, hoping BOB would become the meme king on BNB Chain, just like Pepe is on Ethereum.
Since BNB Chain originated from Ethereum, Binance respects healthy business competition that doesn’t aim to destroy one another.
