Some YouTube accounts have been hacked for cryptocurrency scams, resulting in a loss of 256 ETH
According to Cointelegraph, the cybersecurity company SentinelLABS has reported that several YouTube accounts that previously published cryptocurrency news and investment tips have been compromised by malicious actors to promote fraudulent trading bots that steal cryptocurrencies. This bot conceals smart contracts designed to steal cryptocurrencies. So far, over 256 ETH have been stolen. Alex Delamotte, a senior threat researcher at SentinelLABS, stated in a report that this scam has been 'widespread and ongoing' since at least 2024, spreading through YouTube videos shared on social media that provide tips and smart contract code for deploying cryptocurrency trading bots. After victims deploy the smart contracts, the attackers' wallets are added and disguised as trading addresses. Once users recharge the contract, the scammers can steal the funds. Victims must recharge the contract for the scam to succeed.
