The Ethereum Foundation has made an exciting move toward improving its network with major updates under its ‘Scale L1’ initiative. In a blog post covered by BlockBeats, the foundation shared three important changes that aim to make Ethereum faster, lighter, and more user-friendly.

First, Marius van der Wijden has officially joined Ansgar Dietrichs and Tim Beiko to co-lead the Layer 1 (L1) scaling efforts. This new leadership trio brings deep technical experience to help Ethereum grow in a stable and smart way.

Second, after the successful “Berlinterop” testing event, the Ethereum mainnet gas limit has been raised to 45 million. This is a big milestone. The gas limit controls how many transactions can be processed in each block, and this increase is the first real step toward reaching the long-term goal of a 100 million gas limit. That would mean faster and more efficient transaction processing across the network.

Third, all major execution layer clients have now added support for pre-merge historical data expiration. This technical improvement helps to clear old, unused blockchain data, reducing the amount of storage space needed to run a full Ethereum node. In simple words, it will make it much easier and faster for people to use Ethereum nodes, which is key for decentralization and long-term health of the network.

In addition to these technical upgrades, the Ethereum Foundation has also restructured its R&D division. In June, the team was renamed to “Protocol” and given a sharper focus. The team now works on three main goals: L1 scaling, expanding blob usage (which helps with storing large data), and improving user experience – all while keeping the network secure and decentralized.

With these new updates, Ethereum is showing clear progress in becoming more scalable, efficient, and easier to use. This marks an important step forward for the entire Web3 ecosystem, and it signals that Ethereum is fully committed to meeting the demands of the future.
