Base Network Reports 33-Minute Outage Due to Sequencer Misconfiguration
August 6, 2025 — Blockchain Infrastructure Update
According to BlockBeats, Base, the Ethereum Layer 2 network developed by Coinbase, experienced a 33-minute outage on August 5 due to a misconfigured backup sequencer.
The incident began when the active sequencer encountered delays in block generation. In response, Base’s Conductor system—which oversees sequencer health—triggered an automatic switch to a backup sequencer. However, the backup was not properly configured, leading to a temporary halt in transaction processing.
Base has since fully restored network operations and confirmed the issue has been resolved. The team emphasized ongoing improvements to sequencer reliability and redundancy to prevent similar disruptions.
