This is not a movie plot, but a true story from the life of British programmer James Howells!
He had a digital wallet stored on a small hard drive, but he forgot it in the pocket of an old pair of pants... and threw it in the local landfill! 💾🗑️

When the value of Bitcoin rose later, Howells realized that this disc was worth a fortune!
• In 2021: its value was about 500 million dollars!
• Desperately tried to find it: rented heavy equipment and excavators, used topographic maps, and even at the beginning of this year, Howells thought about buying the landfill site where the disc is believed to be buried, to start the search himself⛏️🗺️. But the city court rejected his request after a long struggle with the Newport City Council, citing environmental and logistical concerns.
• The result? Failure after 10 years of attempts... and the disc is still buried under tons of toxic waste! ☠️
Howells considered what happened to be the biggest regret of his life, as his story of loss became hot material on social media, with some mocking him for giving up after a decade, even though recent estimates suggest that the value of these coins could reach 8 billion dollars by 2030.
