An iconic statue of Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin, was stolen in Lugano, Switzerland, on Sunday, August 3.
The artwork, designed by Italian artist Valentina Piccozzi, was part of a project to turn Lugano into a global Bitcoin hub. The theft comes just a week after a third statue of Satoshi was installed in Tokyo, where it is believed to have been thrown into a nearby lake.
In response, the Satoshi Gallery offered a reward of 0.1 bitcoin (about $11,400) for anyone who could help find the statue.
The statue, located in the Ciani Park, was unveiled in Lugano on October 25, 2024.
