๐Ÿ“˜ Zero to Hero โ€“ Lesson 8: Total Supply

---

โš–๏ธ The Supply Thatโ€™s Minted โ€” But Not Always Circulating

๐Ÿ“Œ What is Total Supply?

Total Supply refers to the total number of coins or tokens that have been created (minted or mined) โ€” minus any that have been burned.

So it includes:

All circulating tokens ๐Ÿช™

Plus locked, staked, or vested tokens ๐Ÿ”’

Minus tokens that have been permanently destroyed ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿงฎ Formula:

Total Supply = All Minted - Burned Tokens

๐ŸŽฏ Why It Matters:

It gives a clearer picture of how inflated a token is, beyond just the circulating supply.

A large gap between total and circulating supply often means future unlocks or vested tokens โ€” which can lead to price pressure ๐Ÿ“‰.

๐Ÿ’Ž Examples:

$SOL : Has over 580M in total supply but much less in circulation.

$APE : Large total supply, with a big % still locked โ€” which means more tokens will hit the market over time.

$SHIB : Huge total supply, but burns reduce it over time.

๐Ÿง  Pro Tip:

Always compare Circulating vs Total vs Max Supply to understand the hidden inflation risk and token unlock pressure.

๐Ÿ”œ In Lesson 9, weโ€™ll dig into Token Unlocks โ€” the silent supply bombs you need to watch as a trader and investor.
