๐ Zero to Hero โ Lesson 8: Total Supply
---
โ๏ธ The Supply Thatโs Minted โ But Not Always Circulating
๐ What is Total Supply?
Total Supply refers to the total number of coins or tokens that have been created (minted or mined) โ minus any that have been burned.
So it includes:
All circulating tokens ๐ช
Plus locked, staked, or vested tokens ๐
Minus tokens that have been permanently destroyed ๐ฅ
๐งฎ Formula:
Total Supply = All Minted - Burned Tokens
๐ฏ Why It Matters:
It gives a clearer picture of how inflated a token is, beyond just the circulating supply.
A large gap between total and circulating supply often means future unlocks or vested tokens โ which can lead to price pressure ๐.
๐ Examples:
$SOL : Has over 580M in total supply but much less in circulation.
$APE : Large total supply, with a big % still locked โ which means more tokens will hit the market over time.
$SHIB : Huge total supply, but burns reduce it over time.
๐ง Pro Tip:
Always compare Circulating vs Total vs Max Supply to understand the hidden inflation risk and token unlock pressure.
๐ In Lesson 9, weโll dig into Token Unlocks โ the silent supply bombs you need to watch as a trader and investor.
