United States Bitcoin Reserve Strategy

On March 6, 2025, the United States government officially established the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve through an executive order signed by President Donald Trump. This strategy aims to store Bitcoin as a national reserve, similar to gold. However, instead of buying from the market, this reserve is formed from BTC seized by federal authorities in legal cases (around 200,000+ BTC), and is prohibited from being sold in the short term.

This initiative also includes the establishment of a *Digital Asset Stockpile* to store other crypto assets. The government is instructed to conduct an audit of all digital assets held within 30 days. Although it initially sparked negative reactions in the market due to the lack of new purchases, the crypto community views this step as a recognition of the importance of Bitcoin as a strategic asset by the state.

As of August 2025, there have been no additional open purchases of BTC, as this policy must be *budget-neutral* and not use tax funds. The government's focus is now more on strengthening crypto regulation and infrastructure. Although conservative, this move marks the beginning of Bitcoin's role in US strategic economic policy.
