☠️🟠 Arkham reveals the biggest mining theft in history — $3.5B in BTC stolen

In December 2020, Chinese mining pool LuBian was hacked, resulting in the theft of 127,426 BTC — worth $3.5 billion at the time, and now valued at over $14.5 billion. Neither LuBian nor the hackers had previously disclosed the breach.

At its peak, LuBian controlled around 6% of Bitcoin's network hashrate. On December 28, hackers drained over 90% of BTC from the pool’s wallets. A day later, they stole another $6 million in BTC and USDT using an address on the Bitcoin Omni network.

By December 31, the remaining funds were moved to backup wallets. In a desperate attempt to recover the stolen assets, the company even sent blockchain messages to the hackers, burning 1.4 BTC across 1,516 transactions.
