Project Crypto — a new SEC initiative presented on July 31, 2025, aimed at modernizing cryptocurrency regulation in the US. The project introduces clear rules that differentiate security tokens from commodities and stablecoins. Licenses are provided for 'superapps' that combine trading, staking, lending, and traditional assets. Asset custody rules are also updated, and 'safe harbors' for ICOs and airdrops are introduced. The project is accompanied by a new Crypto Task Force led by Hester Peirce. The SEC aims to harmonize the market and create clear conditions for crypto companies in the US. This is the first breakthrough approach since 2017.
