The three difficulties of blockchain are like a tight spell that restricts Ethereum's vision of becoming a world computer. The current Ethereum mainnet's 18-20 TPS is too slow and conservative, sacrificing performance to realize the decentralized spirit advocated by blockchain.

However, experienced Ethereum researchers like @drakefjustin and @dankrad believe that Ethereum will enter the era of gigagas and 10K TPS in the next 5-10 years. The realization of all this cannot be separated from zkEVM.

So how can we improve the performance of the mainnet without sacrificing Ethereum's decentralization? The core solution is to shift validators from re-executing transactions to only verifying zk proofs.

But the way Ethereum verifies transactions has fully transitioned from transaction re-execution to L1 zkEVM, which only verifies zk proofs. The complexity is comparable to the transition from PoW to PoS. We can only cross the river by feeling the stones; to ensure security and stability, we can only transition gradually, solving problems as they arise. Ethereum Foundation researcher @sophiagold indicated that zkEVM may be deployed on the Ethereum mainnet within the next year.

The vision of Ethereum L1 zkEVM highly overlaps with the vision of Native Rollup.

Native Rollup will be the ultimate form of Ethereum's Layer 2 scaling. Compared to traditional Optimistic Rollup / zk Rollup, Native Rollup has better performance and security, achieving true alignment with Ethereum L1.

Implementation logic: Based on EXECUTE pre-compilation, the transaction logic in Rollup can be executed directly in the Ethereum L1 EVM execution engine, without relying on external virtual machines to calculate and verify transaction state transitions; Ethereum L1 validators can directly verify ZKP to confirm the state transitions of L2 transactions, with security fully aligned with Ethereum L1.

L1 zkEVM + Native Rollup = Ethereum World Computer

zk is Ethereum.
