Ethereum celebrates 10 years: The journey from idea to technology 'giant'

On July 30, 2025, the global community celebrated the 10th birthday of Ethereum ($ETH ), marking a decade of remarkable development. From an idea by young programmer Vitalik Buterin in 2013, Ethereum has become the world's second-largest blockchain platform, serving as a launchpad for many groundbreaking trends such as DeFi, NFT, GameFi, and Layer-2.

Milestones and challenges

Ethereum officially launched its first block on July 30, 2015. Throughout 10 years, the network has weathered many storms, from the DAO hack in 2016 leading to the birth of Ethereum Classic, to legal investigations regarding whether #ICO constitutes an "illegal securities offering". Major upgrades such as The Merge (transition to Proof-of-Stake) and Dencun (reducing Layer-2 transaction fees) have bolstered Ethereum's position and efficiency. Currently, the network continues to evolve with a roadmap consisting of 5 target groups: The Surge, The Scourge, The Verge, The Purge, and The Splurge, aimed at addressing issues of scalability, decentralization, and operational efficiency.

Current and future position

At 10 years old, #Ethereum is witnessing a massive influx of institutional capital into Ethereum spot ETF funds, while many large companies view ETH as a strategic reserve asset. The network currently leads in total value locked in DeFi, the number of developers and dApps, affirming its role as the flagship of the global decentralized economy. The price of ETH has also surged, reflecting market optimism about the future of the network.
