Senator Hunsen of Cambodia stated through his official SNS that the Thai army initiated a military attack on the Cambodian military base within Cambodian territory, emphasizing that the Cambodian military has conducted a military response in self-defense.
According to Senator Hunsen, the clashes began in the area around the Tamauant Temple (ប្រាសាទតាមាន់ធំ) and the Takrubey Temple (ប្រាសាទតាក្របី) located in Udermeanchey, and the clashes then expanded to the nearby Mombay (មុំបី) area.
He stated in a statement, "Cambodia has always wanted to resolve issues through peaceful means, but when territorial sovereignty is violated as in this case, there is no choice but to respond with armed force." He also added that "the Cambodian government and military are actively carrying out their duties in both military and diplomatic aspects to preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation, even at this moment," and mentioned that support for military personnel on duty at the front and affected local residents is also being provided.
Senator Hunsen also urged the people, "Please trust the government and armed forces and do not be anxious, but maintain calm in your daily lives."
