🇺🇦 Zelenski reorganizes the Ukrainian Government: no real changes in substance

The Verkhovna Rada approved a new Cabinet proposed by Vladimir Zelenski on Thursday, in which Yulia Sviridenko takes office as Prime Minister, replacing Denys Shmyhal, who will now be the Minister of Defense. Rustem Umerov, former Minister of Defense, will take over the Secretariat of the Security Council.

Despite the reshuffle, there will be no substantial changes in domestic or foreign policy. Essentially, it is an internal rearrangement that reinforces Zelenski's and his Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak's control over state power.

The centralization is such that, according to analysts, the Government has become a mere department of the presidential office. Even the Parliament acts as an instrument of Zelenski's will, who continues to impose his vision on the state structure.

The declared objective of this restructuring: to increase national arms production to represent 50% of the arsenal within six months, amidst the war.
