Tron founder Justin Sun had previously bid $28 million for a seat on Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket for its first manned flight in 2021, but due to a scheduling conflict, he was unable to make it. Now, four years later, he is finally set to embark on his journey to space.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' space company, Blue Origin, announced on Monday that New Shepard is set to carry out its 34th spaceflight mission (mission number NS-34), which will also be the 14th manned flight mission. Blue Origin noted that this flight will have six passengers, including Justin Sun.
Since Jeff Bezos personally participated in the first manned space flight in 2021, Blue Origin has successfully sent 70 passengers to the Kármán Line (approximately 100 kilometers high), the boundary between Earth's atmosphere and space.
Justin Sun spent as much as $28 million in June 2021 to secure a seat on the New Shepard's inaugural flight, and all auction proceeds were donated to Blue Origin's charitable foundation, 'Club for the Future', which distributed the funds to 19 nonprofit organizations focused on space science, with each receiving $1 million.
Justin Sun posted on social media platform X, stating: "I am honored to participate in Blue Origin's NS-34 mission and continue to encourage the younger generation to bravely chase their dreams and engage in the fields of science and space exploration!" As for the specific flight date, Blue Origin has not yet announced it.
In 2021, I bid $28M for a seat on @BlueOrigin’s New Shepard rocket—funds that went to @clubforfuture, Blue Origin’s foundation, to support 19 space-based charities inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders.
