Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, is known for her close relationship with President Donald Trump, and has filed a criminal complaint with the Department of Justice against Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. Luna alleges that Powell lied before Congress twice.

According to the criminal complaint obtained by Fox News Digital, Florida Representative Luna alleges that Powell made "false statements" in his sworn testimony. The allegations relate to Powell's testimony before the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee on June 25, 2025.

Luna claims Powell has "concealed extravagant details" and misrepresented the maintenance status in his testimony regarding the renovation of the Eccles Building, the Fed's headquarters. He also accused Powell of suggesting that the project's cost increased from $1.9 billion to $2.5 billion due to "minor changes," an allegation that congressional documents have refuted.

According to the criminal complaint, the project includes luxury amenities such as a VIP dining room, high-end marble, modern elevators, a fountain, and a rooftop garden. Luna argues that Powell misrepresented the existence of these amenities.

Last week, Luna announced on platform X (formerly Twitter) that she would be filing a criminal complaint against Powell. Under U.S. law, lying before Congress (i.e., perjury) can result in up to five years in prison and fines.

Meanwhile, according to the trade publication Mortgage Professional, Jerome Powell has denied all allegations and ordered an independent audit of the renovation costs of the Eccles Building. Tour videos and detailed information about the renovation project have been added to the official Fed website.

Earlier, Luna wrote in a post on X that she believed Donald Trump would fire Powell. However, Trump stated in a statement on the matter that it is "very unlikely" he would fire Powell.
