BlockBeats news, July 21, data released on Sunday by Coinbase's product chief Conor Grogan shows that the Ethereum (ETH) permanently lost due to user errors and code vulnerabilities has reached 913,111 coins (approximately $3.43 billion), accounting for 0.76% of the current circulation. Including the 5.3 million ETH burned under Ethereum Improvement Proposal EIP-1559 in 2021, the total actual loss has reached 6.2 million (approximately $23.4 billion), increasing the proportion to 5%.
Conor Grogan emphasized that this $3.4 billion only includes ETH that is permanently locked and does not account for cases like lost private keys, which are accessible but effectively lost.
